There was a successful The Bible TV series and Aronofsky was popular enough after Black Swan that the studio felt like they weren't taking too huge a risk with Noah. When one thing becomes popular enough, it becomes a trend and everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon.Īronofsky was trying to get Noah made for years, but luckily, around the time he dropped out of The Wolverine, biblical movies were making a comeback. I remember watching the film thinking the controversy was ridiculous. A lot of these articles will include brief lines about the anti-Semitism in Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ. With the bevy of "Bible" movies coming out this year, I've seen a lot of film reviews briefly discuss the history of such films.
